Your own plasma, put to work.
For hair, skin and pain.

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is made from a small sample of your own blood, spun in a centrifuge until the platelets, and the growth factors they carry, are concentrated. We use it three ways: injected into thinning areas of the scalp, applied during microneedling for skin, and injected into painful joints and tendons. When your labs and goals call for it, it sits inside a wider regenerative plan.

A centrifuge separating blood into PRP Two tubes of whole blood spin in a centrifuge. Red cells move to the outer end of each tube and golden plasma collects toward the centre, with the platelet-rich layer between them.

A small sample of your own blood goes into the centrifuge.

How PRP is made

One tube of your blood, four steps.

Tap through the steps. It all happens in our office in a single visit, and you can watch your own sample come out of the centrifuge.

  1. Taken in the office from your arm, much like a routine lab draw. Nothing donor-derived, nothing synthetic: it is your own blood.

  2. The tube spins at high speed. The heaviest part of your blood, the red cells, is forced to the bottom; the lighter plasma rises above it. The components separate by weight, no additives needed.

  3. Red cells at the bottom, a thin pale band of white cells and platelets, and golden plasma on top. The plasma just above that pale band is the platelet-rich part: platelets concentrated several times above their level in whole blood.

  4. The cap comes off and the platelet-rich plasma is drawn up into a syringe, then used the same visit: injected into thinning areas of the scalp, applied during microneedling, or injected precisely into a painful joint or tendon. Platelets release growth factors, proteins your body uses in its normal repair process.

Three ways we use PRP

Hair. Skin. Joints and tendons.

Thinning hair

PRP for hair loss

PRP injected into thinning areas of the scalp, to support the follicles you still have.

Who it suits
Men and women with early-to-moderate thinning, a widening part, or a receding hairline, where follicles are still active.
How it’s done
The scalp is numbed, then PRP is placed with fine injections across the thinning areas. The visit takes about as long as a haircut.
Typical plan
Most plans start with a short series about a month apart, then maintenance a few times a year. Any change is gradual and judged over months, not weeks.
Downtime
A tender scalp for a day or two. Most people go back to work the same day.

Thinning often has an internal driver: thyroid, iron, hormones. We check the labs, so the plan addresses the cause as well as the scalp.

Skin

PRP microneedling

Microneedling with your own PRP applied to the fresh channels, to support texture, tone and collagen.

Who it suits
Rough texture, enlarged-looking pores, fine lines, crepey skin, the look of acne scarring, or dull tone that skincare hasn’t shifted.
How it’s done
A numbing cream first, then a microneedling pen over the area while your PRP is applied. Most people feel pressure and light vibration.
Typical plan
Collagen builds gradually, so most plans are a short series spaced several weeks apart.
Downtime
Pink like a mild sunburn for a day or two. We’ll tell you when makeup and active skincare can go back on.

No fillers, no frozen look: the aim is better skin quality, made with your own biology.

Joint & tendon pain

PRP for pain

PRP injected precisely into a painful joint, tendon or ligament, where it supports your body’s own repair process.

Who it suits
Nagging knee, shoulder, elbow, hip or tendon pain (tennis elbow, for example) that hasn’t settled with rest, therapy or time.
How it’s done
After an exam, PRP is injected into the exact area involved. You may be asked to pause anti-inflammatory medicines around the treatment.
Typical plan
Often one to three injections, a few weeks apart, alongside the right activity and rehab.
Downtime
Soreness for a few days is normal while the area responds. Heavy exercise is eased back in over the following weeks.

It isn’t right for every injury. If an imaging study or an orthopedic opinion would serve you better, we’ll say so.

What to expect

From consult to follow-up.

1

Consult

A provider hears what’s going on, examines the area, reviews your history and medications, and tells you honestly whether PRP is the right tool.

2

Plan

Which treatment, how many sessions and how far apart, and any labs worth checking first, written down before anything is booked.

3

Treatment day

Draw, spin and treat in one visit. You can watch your own sample come out of the centrifuge.

4

Follow-up

Aftercare instructions, a check-in, and an honest look at progress before the next session.

Common questions

PRP, answered.

What is PRP?

Platelet-rich plasma is the part of your own blood that carries platelets, concentrated so the platelets and the growth factors they release are at several times their usual level. It is prepared in the office from a small blood sample, so nothing synthetic or donor-derived is involved.

Does PRP work for hair loss?

It is most often used for pattern thinning in men and women while follicles are still active; it cannot bring back hair where follicles are gone. Many people notice less shedding and fuller-looking hair over several months, but results vary. Because thinning often has an internal driver such as thyroid, iron or hormones, we check the relevant labs as part of the plan.

Can PRP help joint or tendon pain?

PRP is used for pain in knees, shoulders, elbows, hips and tendons, often when rest, therapy or time has not settled it. It supports the body’s own repair process rather than masking pain, so improvement, if it comes, builds over weeks. It is not right for every injury, and we will tell you if imaging or an orthopedic opinion would serve you better.

Does it hurt? Is there downtime?

Scalp and skin treatments are numbed first; most people feel pressure rather than pain. Skin is typically pink for a day or two, a scalp may be tender for a day or two, and a joint or tendon is usually sore for a few days after an injection. Your provider will give you aftercare instructions for your treatment.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on the treatment and on you. Hair plans usually start with a short monthly series and then maintenance; microneedling is usually a short series several weeks apart; pain treatment is often one to three injections. Your provider maps out a realistic plan at your consultation. Individual results vary.

Who should not have PRP?

PRP is not done during pregnancy, over an active infection or rash in the treatment area, or for people with certain blood or platelet disorders or active cancer. Some medications matter too, including blood thinners and anti-inflammatories. Your provider reviews your history and medications before recommending it.

Is PRP FDA-approved? Is it covered by insurance?

The systems used to prepare PRP are FDA-cleared devices; using PRP for hair, skin or pain is a treatment choice your provider will explain, including what it can and cannot do. It is generally not covered by insurance. We are a direct-pay practice and confirm pricing at your consultation. We never promise a specific result.

What does “regenerative medicine” mean at HMI?

Using your body’s own repair signals rather than covering symptoms: PRP from your own plasma, provider-supervised peptides, NAD+ for cellular energy, and hormones brought back into an optimal range. What belongs in your plan is decided with a provider, based on your labs and goals.
